Martin Silberman was 10 years old when world war two started and 16 years old when the German holocaust ended. The chief of police in the town warned all the Jews of the German plan to surround the town and take them away to give the Jews time to run. His family was wealthy, owners of 4 grain mills from four small villages in Poland. The towns electricity came from the grain mills and many businessmen used the grain mill to power the first machines of industry. His grandmother had a business spinning raw wool for the famers from their sheep using the power generation of the grain mill for producing thread. At 12 years old he was living with his father and the partisans in the forest and helping with mostly guard duty and helping in many firefights with the Germans until the Russian Red army liberated Poland.
